We survive on our belief that we do a good job and are changing the lives of children. When the money looks as though it is running out, we carry on: because we can’t abandon the children for a second time. Our principal funding comes from friends who share this belief. Donating is keeping a child and their new hopes alive. We work because you believe in us. A Provincial Minister described the project as “a dream come true”. It is to the 100 boys we have helped.
Mark and Naomi came back to Rwanda with their wedding money and the confidence that even the most bruised and ostracised children can become part of society again and, given love and time, have a future. When the money ran out, they relied on donations sent by friends and family.
Six months later and their belief in the children’s resilience and good nature was paying off. The community, local, national and International organisations were beginning to take notice. We were part of a pilot project for IRC’s (International Rescue Committee’s) vulnerable children’s programme, allowing us to set up centres in Rwamagana and Kabarondo.
Even when we don’t know where the next food bill is coming from, we have to be there for the children. We survive from hand to mouth, on a wing and a prayer; on the belief our donors share in our ability to help the children. We hope that you will be able to support us and become part of our family.
