TEAM SACCA RUNS ½ MARATHON
On 27th September 2009, TEAM SACCA will be running a ½ marathon on two continents to raise funds for SACCA.
The most exciting aspect of this is that the marathon will take place in two continents simultaneously. In London in the UK there will be eight runners and in Kayonza, Eastern Rwanda, 50 children and staff will run from Kayonza town to Kabarondo town and back.
Cassie Williams, a former SACCA staff member decided she was going to run a ½ marathon for SACCA. She then took it one step further, inviting former volunteers/staff and friends in the UK to join her as well as current SACCA staff and children.
Cassie says "SACCA is one of the most marvellous agencies, I'm really proud to have worked with and for them, but it was clear to me that the vast majority of fundraising for the project is being carried out in Europe. In order to achieve true sustainability it is essential that local associations in developing countries are able to actively participate in fundraising for their own projects. This event is especially important since it involves both SACCA in Rwanda and supporters in UK. We are all proud to be running together (albeit continents apart) and very proud to be TEAM SACCA! "

TEAM SACCA: London Contingent
I'm Steve Wright, a 29 yr old primary school teacher from Aylesbury. I visited Rwanda in 2005 to visit my dear friend Cassie Williams and to experience education in the children's centres. I'm running to help raise money for SACCA and to get into shape - motivation I need. no running history. I'm rubbish.
My name is Cassie Williams. I'm 29 and work for an NGO based in London. I spent two years working with SACCA in Rwanda and have kept in close contact with kids and staff ever since. I thought it would be great for us to all run a half-marathon together, getting people in Rwanda and the UK working together. I used to be a competitive lifesaver (don't laugh) but have never taken running very seriously before.
I am Tessa Kipping, the youngest of the bunch at 26.I live and work in Northern Uganda, managing a water and sanitation project for communities. I spent a year and a half working at SACCA in Rwanda, with Cassie for some of it and companionless for some of it. I’ll be running this thing in Rwanda, highly embarrassing as I will be the last one sweating my head off! I have run a half before, but without altitude and hills so I’m very excited about this challenge, opportunity and nutty adventure. Here goes!
Hi, I'm Rachel Landman, I’m 29 (30 by the event). I’m a Project Consultant from London but I currently live in Rwanda where I work with SACCA (until June 2009). I’m running to support SACCA and to get fit again. I used to run cross-country for West Midlands until 1994 but quit to start drinking and smoking with my friends!
We are Loek Landman and Saskia Ploeg. I, Loek, am Rachel's father. Our other kids, Liam, Kira and Hannah will be cheering us on from the sidelines. Rachel had no problems persuading us to run for this great cause as we have both run two other ½ marathons.
