SACCA U’UYU MUNSI
(SACCA Today)
SACCA started the newsletters in June 2007 with the aim of sharing information, sharing skills and making staff, children and other people in community to understand SACCA’s activities and to whom these activities were targeted.
SACCA started the newsletters also because its centres are far from one another. The newsletters help both the staff and children to understand what is going on in other centres. The newsletter in SACCA is a media which SACCA staff, in their different departments, have an opportunity to share skills, ideas and give information to their colleagues about their work. It may concern problems faced, good news to know for everybody, announcements or articles by our children.
In addition, SACCA works with the community and the newsletters show them a number of problems that the street children are facing. It is internal media, but we do think about how we can expand it and send it outside in the community starting by local authorities we are working with, schools where our children are studying, the police, SACCA founder members, and donors.
The idea of starting SACCA newsletter was created by Tessa Kipping, a volunteer at SACCA Rwanda for the period mention above. Tessa spent a long time in SACCA as a volunteer and she helped SACCA in different things including starting SACCA newsletters, staff trainings, organizing activities, teaching SACCA children etc. We are very grateful for all that she brought to the project and hope to see her again.
The newsletter is very useful to the development of the project, it is where staff and children bring new ideas, publicise their goods (e.g. Income generation department) and show how they do their activities within centres/communities. This newsletter also helps central office staff and administration to inform staff /children about new things that happen in the project. It is also an opportunity to show our successes and the successes of our children.
The newsletters play a crucial role in explaining to the community about the lives of street children and show them the contribution SACCA needs from them in order to be able help children. Through a wide spread distribution of the newsletters to the community, we developed a better relationship between SACCA and the community, which the SACCA children would benefit from especially in terms of activities that involve the community such as the reintegration program, education and health.
Our newsletters are concerned with internal affairs of the project and all its activities - they are directed at SACCA staff and children, but we are happy to share these with you. We hope through reading them you will be able understand more about our project, our staff and our children and to see our successes and difficulties.
